THINGS WE SAID WE SHOULD DO BUT REALLY DON'T

Right. All of us made a promise. I said that because I never encountered a single human being that did not swear to God that they will do what they promised. Unfortunately, that same human being failed to make good that promise which put much emphasis on the quote, "promises are made to be broken".

I am a human being (believe it or not) and I also made promises which I failed to do. And don't smile because so are you. Below are the things we said we should do but really don't:

EXERCISE REGULARLY. How many of us said we will exercise regularly? Yep, almost all of us. However, even if not all of us failed on this category, at most, a majority of us do. Why? Because exercising takes a lot of effort with little reward. Or tend to inflict us a lot of pain for what, burn 20 calories or lose 10 pounds in a month? Plus, that strenuous trip to the gym is sometimes too much to handle.

GO ON A DIET. Every woman in this whole wide Earth probably made this promise to herself. And surprise, surprise ended up lining in a long queue for that "eat all u can" buffet and deciding, "hey, what the hell, I deserve to have a cheat day!" only to find out that her cheat day is everyday. So ladies, you can deny this thing here. Go for it. I'm not judging.

WAKE UP EARLY. Yawn and enough said.

MOVE ON AND LET GO. I include this because we tend to be in denial after something terrible happened to us which makes us depressed and miserable. Then we realized that we need to let go and move on and make it one day at a time. After 365 days, you look at the mirror, and found out that still depressed and miserable you.

STAY AWAY FROM FACEBOOK OR TWITTER FOR A DAY. Oh, this is just a personal promise which I obviously failed. I don't know about you? Anyway, moving on...

SMILE EVEN IF OTHERS DON'T SMILE BACK. We admit, this is really something hard to do and yet, we still made a promise because we wanted to be the nice guy...or girl. So, when we give our sweetest smile but unfortunately got a growl in return, then it's very discouraging. So, this one is understandable.

DON'T SHOP WHEN IT IS A SALE. This is a hardcore promise a girl cannot make. Seriously, why in your right mind would you say this? It's a freaking sale for crying out loud. This is a mistake because you will never be able to fulfill this promise. You have been warned.

BE NICE. This is not part of my list. I never made such a promise.

Don't get me wrong. This blog is still about being positive and a pursuit of betterness (though this word is not part of the dictionary).  That despite my above list that name the common things we promised but fail to keep, I still wanted to encourage you to thrive and walk the talk so to speak. Kids, this is just a list in which anytime you can throw in the trash. You are incharge of your life so no matter what I say here, you do not have to agree. And even if you agree, you have to do something about it.

Have a great day and exude positivity. *wink*

De Stress # 1: Lovin' the Holidays

a collection of photos from jaclynworksitout.wordpress.com/valpld.info
Today is the fist official holiday of the month. I say first because there will be atleast two more holidays in this month of August. Today is  a Friday and it means long weekend. Yipee! (I almost roll on the floor for being elated).

I've been mentioning how lazy I am right? Not that I am proud of it but for purposes of this topic, I'd say that people like me are so looking forward and loving this long weekends and holidays. Well in my case, I need it to de-stress since I'm a bit beat up in the office lately for some 'working environment' reasons. So, I came up with a very obvious and no-brainer reasons why I'm lovin' the holidays:

1. I can exercise longer. Lately, for health reasons, I am now shifting albeit gradually to healthy lifestyles. Being that, I prefer exercising in the morning. However since I am an 8-5 corporate slave, doing this is quite daunting if not impossible (not really a morning person, a late "riser"). So, during workdays I end up working out in the evening after work and since I am tired already, I only stayed for roughly 1 1/2 hours thrice a week. Thus, holidays are such an enthusiastically welcome development. I can exercise longer in the morning and I sweat a lot and feeling better all day long.

2. Catching up with my reading. Holidays are the best time to give my books their purpose-to read them. During workdays or even on weekends (I teach in weekends, ergo, still a work day), these books are just saved on my tablet and sometimes being taken for granted by their reader (that's me,btw) and most of the time forgotten (sorry guys, I need to live and reading will not give me some moolah) but quickly reminded of their presence during this 'lull' days.

3. Yes, that long and late shower. Maybe it's just me, but during workdays, I don't enjoy shower as much as I enjoyed it on 'off' days. Plus, here in the Philippines, the arguably hottest country (with hottest people, too! LOL-just lovin' my own) you might want to take a shower in the morning or atleast before going out for work or else you just be disliked for smelling uhmm "sweaty" by someone sitting beside you in the Jeepney or office. However, during holidays, I can be in the shower as long as I want and whenever I want it.

Thus, by doing things that I enjoy very much, I releases my stresses and whatever negative thoughts or vibes I had in the previous days. I love holidays, don't we all?

My Bitter Relationship with Lactose

photo from: www.dailyvowelmovements.com
I hate milk! I mean my tummy hates it I think. It goes bananas everytime I drink it. And going bananas mean a frequent and 'fruitful' trip to the bathroom. Also, the taste does not have an appeal to me- at all.

And yet, I don't have a choice but chug it all in my throat. Why? Because of a freaking medical condition called 'Osteopenia' which I just found out after I had a bone scan (I availed it because it was for free courtesy of office HR). Osteopenia is a like mild Osteoporosis. It is also a condition of thinning bones (got it from Google) but it is somehow correctible by changing lifestyles, drinking/eating calcium-rich foods and drinks (so there goes the milk)and taking supplements. I am doing those three things the doctor advised me to except that the 'milk time before bedtime' is taking a toll on me.

Honestly, I'm quite bothered (actually, it's more like, freaking out) by this Osteopenia thing. Who wouldn't? I am only 30 for christ sake. I can't be having this condition associated with older people right?Right?!

Ha, wrong. As per doctor's opinion and my own thorough research, this condition is now common to affect younger people. The rising popularity of coffee shops, tea shops or even drinking too much softdrinks that attract young people could be one of the reasons why this condition develops. Further, according to WebMD, women are far more likely to develop osteopenia and osteoporosis than men. This is because women have a lower peak BMD and because the loss of bone mass speeds up as hormonal changes take place at the time of menopause.

Now, I chose not to worry and instead focus on the positive. This is afterall, a positivity blog- at least, that's how I expect it to be. Thus:

    1.  Lifestyle change-no more trip to coffee shops limit the coffee intake to just 1 cup a day and no more softdrinks and exercise - Check.
    2.  Take supplements rich in calcium and vitamin D - Check.
    3.  Eat and drink calcium rich foods and drinks - Check to all except Milk equals  failing work in progress.
I think it makes it harder for me to adjust because I'm a coffee person. This transition somehow makes my mind and body bemuse. Boy,I missed those times when I had the liberty to drink coffee anytime on my liking. So anyway, I am still chugging milk while thinking of 'happy thoughts'. =)
